Polish PM says Nord Stream-2 threatens Europe’s energy security

WARSAW, Oct 20 (PRIME) -- Construction of Russia-led Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline poses a threat to Europe’s energy security, Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo told reporters late Thursday.

“Continuation of this investment threatens not only energy independence of the entire Central and Eastern Europe, but disrupts energy security of the entire region,” she said.

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom plans to implement the project together with Uniper, Wintershall, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
